Young Czech singer Mikolas Josef has been selected to represent the Czech Republic at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contsest. He will be performing the song “Lie to me” in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest on 8 May.
This year, Česká televize – the Czech national broadcaster decided to organize a national final in order to select their entry for this year’s contest. More than 400 entries from all over the world were submitted to the national selection and only 6 of them have been shortlisted as a finalists:
- Debbi – High on love
- Doctor Victor – StandUP
- Eddie Stoilow – We rule this world
- Eva Burešová – Fly
- Mikolas Josef – Lie to me
- Pavel Callta – Never forget
The winner was determined by the combination of votes from a public votes and international jury panel. The jury panel consisted of international members, while the public votes were gathered via the official Eurovision application. Everyone was able to vote, but only votes from Czech viewers has been counted on the final night. The international jury panel consisted of ten former Eurovision entrants:

About Mikolas Josef
Mikolas Josef is a singer-songwriter and former model who was born in Prague on October 4, 1995 in a music family. He has been playing the guitar since he was 5 years old and later went on graduate from the London Academic of Music and Dramatic Art. He worked as a street performer and folk guitarist in several European cities such as: Oslo, Zürich, Hamburg and Vienna.
We can also say that he has some Eurovision experience. In 2017 Mikolas was approached to represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “My turn” but he rejected the offer as he did not believe the song suited him.
Last year, Czech Republic was represented by Martina Barta with the song “My turn” but failed to qualify for the final.
