Jelena Tomašević: Eurovision 2018 for Serbia? Sadly no.

Serbia will definitely join the Eurovision party in Portugal. The question is which artist will fly the Serbian flag to Lisbon. The Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) has confirmed the return of Beovizija and opened public song submissions to find the Serbia’s entry for the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal next May.

Beovizija is the popular music festival which gave us the most successful entries that Serbia has sent to Eurovision. The 6th winner of the popular festival was talented and beautiful Jelena Tomašević. Jelena represented Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 which was held in her home country, finishing in 6th place with the powerful ethnic ballad “Oro”.

The official and full list of participants of Beovizija 2018 is yet to be revealed. But according to Serbian and European press, former Eurovision entrant Jelena Tomašević is amongst the names expected to be revealed by the Serbian broadcaster.

Unfortunately, on December 8th Jelena has denied these rumours. On her facebook profile she stated “For all those who wonders and speculate in newspapers, I did not submit the song for Beovizija!” With this statement, she disappointed many fans in Serbia and abroad. We hope to see her in this festival in the following years.

Despite being popular in Serbia, Beovizija was only used to determine Serbia’s Eurovision representative three times as an independent country. The most memorable moment for Serbia in the contest was Marija’s 2007 winning entry “Molitva”.

Who would you like to see fighting out in a Serbian national selection for the golden ticket to Lisbon? Would you like to see a returning artist represent Serbia at Eurovision again?
